Kyrie Irving announces he’s now a ‘lifelong supporter’ of specific WNBA team he has no links to

Athletes usually gravitate towards supporting other teams in their local market if they don't have any pre-existing allegiances. Many assumed the same about Kyrie Irving, who has been a visible supporter of the Dallas Wings, but it turns out his heart is set somewhere else.

While watching the 2026 WNBA Playoffs, Irving had to admit that he is a fan of a different team, who have won him and most of the WNBA fanbase over, in just one season.

After watching the Valkyries sweep the reigning champions Las Vegas Aces out of the second round of the 2026 WNBA Playoffs, Irving admitted that he will now be a lifelong Valkyries fan .

"Shoutout to the Valkyries! Y'all really are like that!! Got a lifelong supporter now!"

Since you cannot spell Valkyries without Kyrie, it is fitting that the 34-year-old has picked them to be his WNBA team of choice.

Some fans in Dallas might be upset that Irving won't be a Wings fan despite previously attending their games and building a relationship with Paige Bueckers. However, the basketball truth might be too unavoidable for Irving after watching the Valks this season.

This is the Valkyries' second season in the WNBA, creating a championship-calibre roster with one offseason after going 23-21 in their inaugural season, making a surprise playoff appearance.

Three of their core stars (Veronica Burton, Kayla Thornton, and Cecilia Zandalasini) were acquired in the expansion draft after being discarded by other teams. Signing Gabby Williams and Kiah Stokes in the 2026 offseason transformed their defence, as they have left the rest of the WNBA in the dust.

Their identity as sharpshooters, alongside running the best defensive system in the league, will be put to the test in the Finals against the Atlanta Dream.
